Skanska USA Civil was awarded a $30 million project from the DeKalb County Public Works Department to construct the Chattahoochee Raw Water Pump Station in Atlanta, GA. 

The scope of work for this project includes construction of a new raw water pump station along the Chattahoochee River. The contract requires new trash rakes, screens, sand separation equipment, conveyors, sluice gates, vertical turbine pumps, bridge crane, monorail cranes, miscellaneous architectural finishes, structural steel / metals, HVAC, plumbing, instrumentation, and electrical. Special challenges include construction of a temporary cofferdam to allow the new raw water pump station to be built along the Chattahoochee River. Tight space constraints at the site and limited laydown access are potential issues that may arise during construction.

The project team will also be responsible for construction of a large foundation package including 100 drilled shafts, installation of 30’ h-piles and lagging walls, a complex sheet piling system with cut-off wall and deep eductor well dewatering systems. When completed, the station will be a state-of-the-art facility. The water pumped from the Chattahoochee River will be carried to new reservoirs where it will be treated and ready for consumption by local businesses and residents. 

Work began January 2007 with a project duration of 24 months.
