I95 - I495 - Route 1 Interchange


Brief Overview


Tidewater Skanska has been contracted to build an interchange on the beltway around Washington D.C. The contract is valued at (USD 147 M). The customer is the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The project is for the reconstruction of the Interstate 95/495 and the Route I Interchange in Virginia, south of Washington D.C., one of the main access highways to the nation's capital. It is the largest single contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The project comprises construction of 19 bridges, 1.6 miles of interstate roadway 12 to 14 lanes in width, the design, erection and dismantling of two temporary bridges and the demolition of seven existing bridges.

Construction on the project began in mid-January 2004 and will be complete in June 2009.
