| Pile driving in the New York market hadn’t changed much in 100 years, so when the company imported nine $1 million hydraulic pile drivers that were custom-made in Finland and six hydraulic rotary drill rigs from Germany, they moved the market to the next level.
By investing in new technology, Underpinning and Foundation can offer advanced foundation techniques which are far ahead of what our competitors can offer. This world-class equipment allows Underpinning to offer more efficient and cost-effective alternatives to traditional foundation designs. The new computer-controlled machines provide faster, more efficient foundation construction. They’re more transportable and fit into smaller spaces. To maintain and operate these machines, Underpinning sent several people to Finland and Germany for training. | | |
The equipment’s mobility and efficiency enabled Underpinning & Foundation Skanska to install more than 5,000 piles for the New York Power Authority’s (NYPA) In-City Gas Turbine Project, which was construction of 11 power production units in record time. To complete the NYPA project, Underpinning’s staff worked six days a week (using the seventh day for maintenance) and rescheduled other projects. |
