| Pile driving in the New York market hadn’t changed much in 100 years, so when the company imported nine $1 million hydraulic pile drivers that were custom-made in Finland and six hydraulic rotary drill rigs from Germany, they moved the market to the next level.

The equipment’s mobility and efficiency enabled Underpinning & Foundation Skanska to install more than 5,000 piles for the New York Power Authority’s (NYPA) In-City Gas Turbine Project, which was construction of 11 power production units in record time. To complete the NYPA project, Underpinning’s staff worked six days a week (using the seventh day for maintenance) and rescheduled other projects. |
