Underpinning installs 21 nos. High Capacity Rock Socketed Caissons for the new 45 story Hearst Office Tower Building.
Originally built in the late 1920’s, the Hearst Buildings’ façade is now designated as a New York City landmark. The new caissons, all 24 inches (620mm) in diameter with rock sockets as deep as 21 feet (6.4m) are being installed within the original buildings façade. The caissons support individual vertical loads as high as 1600 tons U.S. The work began in December of 2003 and will be completed by February of 2004. | Contract is valued at approx. $880,000 U.S.
