New York Avenue Metrorail Station

Skanska USA Civil completed New York Avenue Station a full two months before scheduled. The design-build project to construct a new "drop in" metro station along the Red Line route between Union Station and Rhode Island Avenue, included all track work and connections.

Referred to as an in-fill station (a station located between two existing stations), New York Avenue was be the first new station added to the 103-mile existing system on Metro's busiest line, the Red Line. Many stand-out architectural features were a part of this difficult assignment.

The location of the New York Avenue station was chosen because the site is an urbanized section of DC, where existing land use is a mixture of residential, commercial, light industrial, and vacant land. In addition, the area includes prime locations for redevelopment, along with opportunities for community revitalization, economic development, and job growth.

This at-grade level station was built on a combination of the existing railroad embankment and bridges, the station added no new mileage to the existing 103-mile system.
